Our Story

Mahurangi, December 17, 2020

This seasons has certainty been different with a really slow start, which had us expecting a much smaller harvest this year.
This small Pohutukawa site has us hopeful now for a bumper crop of this sought after honey, with boxes filling up quickly and the bees all in top gear! A super can be easily filled in 1 week on strong hive. Loading the hives up with extra boxes is now the task on hand, and crossing our fingers that the weather behaves..
A cyclone from the north can be the end of the nectar flow with damaged flowers, and the bees consuming a lot of what they have just stored.. its a fine balance between nature and our hive management, with no guarantees, just keeping positive, and doing the right thing ..
Lovely to have an extra helper with this super friendly young hen.
